It has been a while since my last detailed update about the SP-Studio remake (or just “new SP-Studio”) development. The reason for this was that the situation became rough during the last couple of months and I wanted to wait until I knew for sure how the future looks like. Now I finally feel optimistic enough to tell you more about the current state of development and plans for the upcoming months:
Happy new year! I hope 2019 started great for you and will bring you a lot of joy.
In this blog post I want to tell you about my plans for this year and look back on the last one. 2018 has been very exciting! Back in January I announced my plans to replace the old SP-Studio with a “remake” that won’t rely on the dying Adobe Flash plugin anymore. To make this possible I had to ask for financial support. This step was neccessary to safe the future of this website and I am incredibly thankful for everybody who decided to donate. My minimum goal was reached and I even found help with the coding. During the following months Kai Wegner helped me to build the base of the new SP-Studio and I worked on the design, learned how to deal with the new coding and started to convert and improve the old items.
The SP-Studio remake is making progress, but unfortunately there is nothing new to show you yet. I mainly do things in the background which are very time consuming but boring to look at. So I thought about what I could show you in a blog post… and came up with this “little” text about how to convert an old SP-Studio item into a new one. Perhaps some of you are interested in “behind the scene” stuff like this. Otherwise I apologize in advance for boring you. 🙂
For every SP-Studio item I follow these steps…
Time to talk about the current state of the NEW SP-Studio! I did not do this earlier because I wanted to wait until the important parts actually work. I already noticed a decline in donations, because of course you want to SEE that I am working on something. So I am very happy to tell you: We have a beta version!
Before I go into more detail I want to thank Kai Wegner who is helping me with the development. Luckily for me he is an absolute pro when it comes to the things the SP-Studio needs, like doing magic with svg files. Kai is coding the base for the SP-Studio remake in Angular2 and helps me to understand as much as possible for being able to edit it by myself. Since I am no actual coder there was no way for me to manage this without help, because building it in Flash was completely different.
This little survey will help to determine which features are most important for the SP-Studio remake. It might not be possible to include all of them, because donations are still needed. So please take the time to tell me about what’s important for you. Thank you very much!
SP-Studio Functions Survey
A detailed blog post about the current state of the development of the SP-Studio remake will follow soon.
It has been one month since I told you about the bad sitution of my website and it’s time for another update. I received many questions, so this will be a F.A.Q. post about the future of the SP-Studio. Feel free to ask anything else in the comments!
1) In short: What’s the problem?
The SP-Studio is coded in Flash. But Flash is slowly dying, so the SP-Studio will not work anymore on your computer. To save it a new version is needed which does not rely on Flash. Continue reading
The mimimum goal of 600$ is reached!
Because of the amazing support during the past couple of days I reached my minimum goal, which means I don’t have to shut down this website! This is an incredible relief for me. Thank you so much for your funding (48 people donated so far) and for spreading the word! Every single one of you made a difference and helped SP-Studio.de to survive. I was even contacted by coders with experience in projects like this. So the future looks way brighter now than when I started this campaign two weeks ago.
Happy new year! First of all I want to thank my supporters very much for their PayPal and Patreon donations! You helped me in 2017 to continue with SP-Studio updates and provide the visitors of the site with new items to build their characters. 2018 will be something special though, because huge changes are unavoidable… And I have some sad news.
The death of Flash means the death of sp-studio.de.
