Forum update

Under ConstructionThe SP-Studio forum will be offline for a couple of days. It was time for a big update and unfortunately this did not go smoothly. But it will be a better forum when it’s back!
Right now I am not sure how long it will take, but I will keep you updated in the comments of this post. So if you are a member or even team member of the forum you can stay here while the forum is offline.
Thank you for your patience!

New variations for the hair

South Park hair updateA new button was included which allows you to switch the highlights and shadows on and off for every hairstyle! This means the old hairstyles are available in new variations, so make sure to revisit them to have a look. The “shadows” button can be found in the upper right corner when you select the color.
I am sorry for the lack of updates during the past couple of months. This update might not seem like a big deal, but I had to put a lot of time into it to make it work. The coding in the background took a while and I had to change 214 files with different drawings. In combination with a lot of “real life work” I hope this explains my absence.
The reason for this update was my own disappointment with my old drawings. My drawing style changed over the years and I prefer shadows and highlights now to make the hair look a little bit more realistic. I wanted to bring a more consistent look to the hairstyle category but I know some of my visitors love the classic flat South Park look. So how could I make everyone happy? That’s why I decided to offer the option to choose between those two styles. And removing the highlights might be helpful for those artists as well who like to use the items in different and creative ways.

Big update for the clothes

blog_version5.17This took a little while, but there are many new things to discover now:

  • 16 new clothes were added to the SP-Studio! Eight printed t-shirts, five dresses, a corset in custom colors, a fashionable tuxedo and a pea coat. This time I focused on “normal” clothes, because we had a lot of special costumes lately.
  • The shirts are splitted into 4 instead of 2 categories now, so it’s less chaotic.
  • In the “dresses” category you can move your cursor over an item to learn about what it was inspired by (movies, celebreties, traditional clothes from certain countries,…). I plan to include this feature for the shirts as well, but want to wait for your feedback first.

I hope you enjoy the new features and clothes! If you like my work here at sp-studio.de and want to see more updates you might consider to support it. There are many ideas for more updates in my head which wait for the chance to be inlcuded. πŸ™‚

Big Update with new features!

SP-Studio updateReady for big pictures and some spinning? After more than 100 hours of work I am proud to present the new improved SP-Studio! Thanks to everybody who supports me with Patreon or Paypal. This motivated me to finally work on this huge update. I had to change every file to include those new features, but I think they are very useful:

  • Full screen mode! This makes it more comfortable to work on your pictures.
  • Bigger images! When you save them you have 3 sizes to choose from.
  • New item menu! It looks better now and has more features:
    – recoloring custom color items at any time
    – flipping and flipping back the items (and more can be flipped now)
    – spinning every item (in small steps or by pressing the mouse button)
    – dragging the item menu to another place if it is in your way
  • The copyrights text became clearer and is included in the “save” screen.

I improved old drawings a little bit if they looked too bad in full screen mode. The F.A.Q. have been updated. Oh, and stripes and points for the skin have custom colors now.
A “sp-studio.de” watermark has been included because unfortunately many people used my pictures without mentioning the source. This makes it difficult for this website to survive. But you can still remove the watermark if you want to link to sp-studio.de in a different way. Those who read carefully will be rewarded… :). I hope you support what you like, even if I let you decide for yourself.
Have fun with the update! πŸ™‚
Attention: If you see the old item menu instead of the new one or other strange errors appear, this means old files are still saved in your browser cache. Go to your browser settings and clear the cache (temporary internet files). Then your computer will recognize the files.

more colors

Twice as much color!

more colorsFrom now on you can choose from 200 different colors when you create your sp-studio.deο»Ώ characters. I am sure this will help you to be even more creative! πŸ™‚ Hair, shirts, skin, backgrounds… every item which uses the palette benefits from this update. The colors are better sorted now so you can find a fitting color combination easier than before. I chose the different shades for every color myself instead of using an automatic script to do this to make sure everything looks like I want it to look.
As a bonus more eye make-up, horns and wings from the “make-up and extra body parts” category have turned into custom color items. And I made little improvements to many hair styles because looking at old drawings can feel pretty awkward. I changed black lines to dark lines (depending on the selected color) and fixed small “holes” between hair and body.
I am looking forward to seeing your colorful SP-Studio pictures!

SP-Studio Patreon page

I have a Patreon page now

SP-Studio Patreon pageDo you like SP-Studio.de? You can support it now at Patreon.com with a small monthly pledge. Even a Dollar can make a difference. I started this crowdfunding campaign in order to be able to continue to provide regular updates and more content. Asking for money is not easy for me, but Patreon is a fair concept, because you support artists who already create content you enjoy. So you know what you get. They do it for free, but this doesn’t mean they can survive without money.
I started to work on this project back in 2002 and never charged my visitors for anything. Not only the updates take time to draw and code, I also reply to feedback and provide support every day. Now I cannot afford to put more time into a project I don’t earn money with. I get a lot of interesting feedback and there are so many ideas I would love to draw, but unfortunately I can only include a very small part of those. To pay my rent I work as a freelancer, so if this Patreon campaign pays off I could choose to work less on other jobs and put more time into my own projects like the SP-Studio.

This is my Patreon page:

Please take the time to have a look and consider to become my patron. The video is in English, but there are subtitles in German as well. It’s my dream to be able to work on what I enjoy most and you can help me get a little bit closer to this. I see profile pictures created with my drawings all over the web, and if only a small percentage of users considered making a donation, it would make a HUGE difference. Unfortunately single Paypal donations and ad banners don’t work as good as several years ago, so this is why I take this step now. Financial support means more updates in the future! And as a Patron you will get rewards like the possibility to see updates before they are published and to vote for what I should draw next. Check out the rewards on bottom of the Patreon page. And here is a video about how Patreon works.
I need YOUR help now! I am not good at promoting myself, so if you don’t support me at Patreon please spread the news by sharing the link. Many people have visited SP-Studio in the past and use the pictures I have drawn, but I cannot reach them without you. So this is the one time I ask you to share something and spread the word about my Patreon page. Thank you very much for your help!

SP-Studio Website Update

New website design

SP-Studio Website UpdateWelcome to the newly designed SP-Studio website! I wanted it to look a little bit more appealing and improved some technical things. The SP-Studio itself did not change much, but a new content update about a famous tv show will come next week. I hope you like how everything turned out. The most important changes are:

  • The overall look of this website became more playful and inviting. Now you actually see SP-Studio characters when you open the site.
  • A responsive layout, so the website looks better on big screens now.
  • A “news slider” on the front page so you won’t miss any updates.
  • The front page should be less chaotic now.
  • On the bottom of the blog are a search field, archives and a tags cloud to make it easier to find old posts.
  • The blog looks nicer with fitting images for every post.
  • You can use Gravatars now when you comment.

Construction works

Under ConstructionThe SP-Studio will go offline tomorrow (September 18th) for a couple of hours. The reason for this is that I have been working on a new design for the last weeks and now I want to make it public. I will try to get the whole website back working as fast as possible, but things like this usually take some time. While I work on this update you can still visit the SP-Studio community.
Congratulations to Lefiou for winning the SP-Studio contest about famous robots! Check out the pictures in the gallery, there were a lot of good ones this time. And join the current SP-Studio contest about SCHOOL until Spetember 20th. This is a free topic, so your picture can be about anything related to school or university.

SP-Studio background patterns

Background patterns

SP-Studio background patternsWe have more background colors now! And I started to include background patterns. I hope they will be useful for you if you don’t want to use one of the detailed sceneries. If you want more patterns like this, just tell me about your wishes in the comments.
The new SP-Studio picture contest has started as well, so join it until July 20th :). This month the topic is VACATIONS. Congratulations to the winners of the last contest!

More "stuff" categories

SP-Studio UpdateI re-sorted the “stuff” category, because it got really chaotic. There are 3 new sub-categories now: food, toys and foregrounds. The make-up and extra body parts were merged into one and the tools and weapons as well. I think this helps a lot to find faster what you are looking for.
As an additional new feature I included buttons to switch directly between the sub-categories. They can be found in the “hair” and “shirt” categories as well.
There are no new items in this update, but don’t worry – the next one will come soon.
EDIT: Sorry, it will take a little longer until the next update will be online. A bunch of unexpected work and a broken mouse :(. But I want to finish it around April 1st. No joke ;).
