The Official "Rate the Song Above You"

  • Quote from Jabels

Wait til you're older, son. ;)

I am older than you. :P
    It's just about liking ;)

Muse - MK Ultra maybe my favorite track of the unbelievable awesome album "The Resistance"

Good song. One of the better ones off of The Resistance, one of the few I come back too off of that album. I always thought it sounded like a mix of "Plug in Baby" and "The Small Print".

    Pentagram-"Forever My Queen"
*If you liked it, check out The Dead Weather's cover. Alison Mosshart on vocals? Fuck yes!

  • Quote from Caribou

Only if you measure in time. :P

I knew there would be an answer like this

  • It's okay, Jabels is older than most people. He likes Pink Floyd and everything. ;)

  • If it's up to music, I often really can go for some old stuff. Its just I don't like this specific song ;)
And I guess we all agree if one says Pink Floyd is awesome, or?

  • I figured someone might take a stab at this so I didn't have to, but it's been seven months, so what the hey...

Well, I clicked the link. I watched a couple of minutes. Never heard it before but it was EXACTLY like I was expecting: boring and depressing in equal measures. Closed the tab again. I give it one gold tooth out of ten.

So... how's about "Chicken in the Corn" by Brushy One String?

  • Damn, that was pretty neat. I've always seen that guy but I never gave the time to give him a listen. I really dug it. I definitely wanna check out that documentary on him now.

    Japanther - "Stolen Flowers"
    (This band fuckin' rules!)

  • Absolutely loved the video, but the song itself... man, I bought Muse's first album the week it came out and played it constantly, but everything they've released since then has made me like them a little bit less each time, to the point where now they're just like white noise in the background of my life. There's something so smug and egotistical about Matt Bellamy that really rubs me up the wrong way, even though I recognise he's an uncommonly talented musician. It's partly his voice and partly his empty, meaningless-yet-pretentious lyrics.

There aren't many bands that bring out such conflicted feelings in me, but on the whole I still think they're losing the battle overall - for marks out of ten, I could swing between a four and a six depending on my mood. I think the only fair option is to split the difference and say five.

One of my all-time personal favourites: Archers of Loaf - "Web in Front"

  • Ah, man. I've been such a fan of just about everything you've brought up so it pains me to say this, but I just couldn't get into that one. That specific era of music just isn't my cup of tea. I don't know, it's hard to explain.

    The Orwells - "Blood Bubbles"

  • I really liked that. Love the fact that it could easily be a lost sixties song and you'd never be able to tell. Beautiful video too. I've not heard of these guys before; I'll have to check out more. 9/10

So... here's Wes Borland of The Limp Biscuits with his other band, Big Dumb Face. Obviously it goes without saying that it's miles better than anything he ever did at his day job, but I'd be interested to hear what people make of "Duke Lion" all the same...
