As you all know, I'm in a band. I write songs from time to time.
All of our songs start off as poems (for me, at least.)
The poem I'm about to share with you guys...is personal.
I'm not sure if you guys have noticed or not...but I haven't been very active lately because I lost one of the best friends I've ever had in a tragic accident about two weeks ago. ='[
It's been really tough and very hard lately, so I haven't said much to anyone for a while now.
I'm slowly recovering, but I'd like to share this with you.
This poem...is in the process of turning into a song that my band will be performing in the future...dedicated to his memory.
This one is called...Flying High.
Flying High
Restless nights, tossing and turning in my bed
Cold sweat, a racing heart, and pain in my head
Sometimes I wonder if you’re still here
But there is a familiar voice that whispers in my ear
Dry those eyes and smile for me
I’m still around, please don’t worry
I’m flying high in the sky and I’ll protect you forever
This isn’t goodbye, I’ll see you later
Drinking Mountain Dew, talkin’ ‘bout old times
He’s showing us signs that his spirit is still alive
We’ve got planes flying over us during every speech
That’s Casey up there, watching over me
There were times when I was at my all time low
I had no one to turn to and nowhere to go
Casey had a smile that brought me out of my worst mood
Life will always get easier and we’ll see him soon
Not a day goes by where we don’t think of you
I can still hear your laugh and your singing voice too
We may no longer cry and no longer feel sad
But I want you to know that you’re the best friend I ever had
Dry those eyes and smile for me
I’m still around, please don’t worry
I’m flying high in the sky and I’ll protect you forever
This isn’t goodbye, I’ll see you later
(I have other poems too if you'd like to read more from me!)
