Pop Culture Quiz

The degree of feedback to my Star Trek themed quiz inspired me to start a new quiz with a broader focus. This might include TV series and movies but also music, celebrities in general and everything else that comes to my mind.

For the inauguration party, I invited an American singer who is famous for her vocal range. As you might have noticed, Christmas is coming closer, and her song, although not immensely successful upon is original release in late 1994, has since become a Christmas evergreen.

Who can tell me either her name or the song's title?

Annotation to Janina: Although you can move the speech bubbles here on SP-Studio, you cannot mirror them to keep them pointing to the character. I drew one myself, but maybe other users might find such a feature useful. Also I would have liked to add a mistletoe because it gets mentioned in the song but I couldn't find one.

In my eyes the most logical follow-up to Mariah Carey is this fellow:

I got the impression that I gave to many hints with the last entry so for now I won't give any additional information.

Both guesses aren't that bad. And as often, the truth lies somewhere in between.

I did some research: The Creature from the Black Lagoon is from the mid 50s, the creature I am looking for originated in the mid 70s and the first sightings of the chupacabra occured in the mid 90s.

Thus it could well be that the guy above was inspired in part by the creature from the black lagoon, although it doesn't live in the water and instead is more of a lizard. Some depictions of the chupacabra on the other hand are in fact quite similar, so it could really have been an inspiration.

Maybe it's helpful to know that - as strange as it may sound - this creature is from a children's show.

To be fair, I'm not sure if the respective series ever aired in Poland or the Netherlands. But in 2009 there was a big-screen adaptation. It didn't capture the atmosphere but maybe you noticed it.

The next participant is from a movie from 1960. It's the screen adaptation of a classic work of science fiction. The story spans more than 800 000 years which might be a record. Here he is:

As an additional information, I can tell you that the movie is about time travel and those creatures are descendants of mankind in a far future.

Nobody here seems to share my fondness of old movies. This guy is a morlock from the original Time Machine movie.

At least here in Germany there is not the slightest trace of wintry weather. The closest thing I could come up with to compensate for that is a new music act that at least deals with the topic of emotional cold within a relationship. Who can tell me the title of the song and the name of the singer?

The singer I am looking for ist also known as the Queen of Pop, so who could be more suitable for a quiz on pop culture? She is also notorious for re-inventing herself with every new album, which explains her outfit.

That's right! Now you only need to find out the name of the song.

The song I was looking for is Frozen. In this case it would have benn helpful to google the snippet of the songtext.

The next entry in my quiz is at the same time a Christmas greeting. And who could be more suitable to bring you my Christmas greetings than this human Christmas ornament. Who knows her?

Nobody seems to have recognized Dame Edna Everage. So I'll try a music act again.

This singer covered an 80s song with her band in late 2003 before she took of to her solo career. Who knows her?
