The main Buddha, Gautama Buddha, was actually quite a slim guy, so this picture is accurate. But a lot of Westerners get him confused with Budai, also known as "the Laughing Buddha".

Yeah, I only found that out a few years ago myself, and it's stuck with me ever since. It just seems like such a huge thing for so many people to have got so totally wrong (kinda like several million Buddhists thinking Jesus and Muhammed were the same being), and of course being a hugely arrogant Westerner myself I have a big bee in my bonnet about the typical perception of "arrogant Westerners". ;)
