I'm surprised this finished as high as it did. There's nothing really wrong with it as a picture, but it could have been made in about ninety seconds - including the planning time.

Yes, but it's as good as it's simple.

I prefer simple drawings with good resemblance than more sophisticated ones with forced parts on them.

The only fault is the horizontal displacement that should have been corrected moving a little some of the items.

But Janina drew this hairstyle to specifically resemble this character - and since it covers the whole face, there's no way you could use this hairstyle and not have it be a good resemblance to Sadako.

Apart from the hair, there's only the background, the body and the dress. That's four parts in total, none of them moved at all. To me that seems more like laziness than deliberate minimalism. ;)

(And I don't remember this character ever being in a graveyard in either version of the film anyway - if it was supposed to be a generic, made-up yūrei that would be fine, but the description says it's from the movie, so having her standing by a well or crawling from a TV set would be much more appropriate as a background.)

But I'm not slagging off the picture, just saying I'm surprised it finished so high. I mean, it finished above yours, Strider, as well as ADePALMA1215's and BramMetBakkebaard's... all of which I'd say were much more creative and interesting to look at than this.

Your Gilda picture was a deserving winner, though - now that was an example of simple done well, in my book.

It's quite simple, really. Making a well known character from popular culture will give you lots of good ratings from the fans of the movie/book/game the character is from, no matter if it's super creative masterpiece, or a half-assed product of lazyness. Most people will more likely vote high on a pic that shows what they know and like, and ignore quality-wise better pictures....... :whatever:

...By that logic, Gossamer and Cookie Monster should have finished MUCH higher. But this certainly wouldn't happen if more people were voting. It still frustrates the hell out of me that we have eleven moderators including Janina, and yet every single contest almost every picture gets less than ten votes. If the moderators can't even be bothered to vote, why should anyone else? :nono:

That is the point! Even the participants don't vote... :huffy:
